Hi, I’m Adam — a junior art director based in NYC.
I create visuals that speak louder than words. A little strange,
a lot intentional ;)

CHICAGO

Scope
Opening Title sequence for the film Chicago by Rob Marshall.

Goal
Design a motion sequence that matches the tone of Chicago (2002), directed by Rob Marshall—visually introducing the film’s mood, characters, and setting through movement, typography, and atmosphere. The objective was to keep the storytelling brief yet symbolic, offering just enough visual intrigue to set the stage without giving the plot away.

Process 01

Inspired by the film’s core themest, this title sequence is a visual dance between light and shadow. I leaned into theatrical silhouettes, bold typography, and rhythmic edits that mimic jazz pacing and stage lighting.

Process 02

The sequence ends with a newspaper-shaped mask transition that blends seamlessly into the opening scene of the film. This visual cue subtly suggests that everything to come is part of a staged act—a media spectacle, a performance wrapped in illusion—echoing the central theme of Chicago.

What I Learned

Visual Storytelling:
Explored how to introduce a film’s tone through type, rhythm, and pacing—without revealing the plot

Cinematic Language:
Studied how light, shadow, and transitions can foreshadow themes like illusion and media spectacle Narrative
